Meditation

Here are some definitions of meditation.

  • ME-DIG-ACTION is meditation. You try to understand the inner functioning of your mind.
  • Making an inner journey.
  • The process of stilling the mind.
  • Emptying the mind.
  • The negation of self.
  • Taking away consciousness from external entanglement.
  • An altered state of consciousness.
  • Making peace with the inner self.
  • Establishing a link between the higher regions of the mind and waking consciousness.
  • Shifting consciousness from the self to something else.

Benefits of Meditation

  • Brings profound relaxation, both physical and mental. One of the remarkable changes that occur during meditation is slowing down of the metabolic ratethe rate at which the body burns oxygen and food necessary for building up the body.
  • Lowers blood pressure, both during and after meditation.
  • Slows down the heart rate to a few beats per minute.
  • Increased blood flow ensures that oxygen is more efficiently delivered to the muscles and the lactate produced during periods of intensive activity is more quickly and effectively removed.
  • Calmness and serenity ensure the production of lactate is less. Conversely, those experiencing anxiety, tension and neurosis have a high level of lactate.
  • With reduction in lactate level during meditation, deep relaxation is experienced, which consequently reduces blood pressure and all anxiety symptoms.
  • Regular practise brings about an improvement in psychosomatic diseases.
  • Practitioners show increased intelligence, memory, emotional stability, personality strengths and an enormous improvement in social and vocational adjustments, because meditation imparts mental discipline.

The person who meditates becomes physiologically better from the person who does not. Physiologically meditation is deeply restful, much more than the normal rest gained from lying on a cosy bed in deep sleep.

Regular practise of meditation transforms a person gradually by imparting a sense of calm and control. Transformation does not take place during sleep although the body gains physical relaxation. Meditation paves the way for spiritual growth. Meditation ensures inner peace and harmony.

The emotional turmoil of daily life is neutralised by deep meditation. During meditation, one will notice the remarkable improvements that occur in the brain rhythm, blood pressure, pulse rate, skin resistance, etc.

In recent years, scientists have begun to notice the profound impact of meditation in curing many so-called incurable diseases. Dr Carl Simonton from the United States has cured several terminal cancer patients through his CRVR meditation technique.
